A Night of Collaboration, Commitment, and Hope for Nevada’s Neurodiverse Community

The Nevada Collective for Autism and Neurodevelopment (NvCAN) officially launched at a private reception on October 22 at Hyatt Place South Reno, bringing together university leaders, clinicians, donors, and community advocates committed to expanding autism and neurodevelopmental care across Nevada.

The evening celebrated both NvCAN’s mission and the appointment of Dr. Girija Kadlaskar to the University Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment (UCAN) at the University of Nevada, Reno, a position made possible through NvCAN’s support. Guests heard from NvCAN co-founders Dr. Jan Marson and Dr. Debra Vigil, who shared how the organization was founded to bridge gaps in services, shorten waitlists for assessments, and strengthen collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and families statewide.

During the program, Dr. Marson and her husband, Dave Marson, announced a $500,000 matching-fund pledge through 2026, ensuring that every donation to NvCAN goes twice as far in advancing care, education, and research. The evening also included remarks from Dr. Kadlaskar, who spoke about her research and her vision for improving access to assessments and services for Nevada families.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Marson expressed deep gratitude:

“This launch was a powerful statement that Nevada is ready to lead the way in supporting children with autism and neurodevelopmental differences. We’re so thankful to everyone who came out to share this moment and commit to building a brighter future together.”

The reception closed with warm conversation and a shared sense of momentum—an early example of how NvCAN’s collaborative approach is already bringing people together to create lasting change.
